The world of fashion is full of technical terms. In our online glossary you find explanations of the most important terms from the fashion and textile industry.
- Bouclé:
Fabric knitted or woven of an uneven yarn of three fibers one of which forms evenly spaced loops.
Characteristics: A rough and looped surface, very uneven appearance.
- Cotton:
Natural fibre.
Characteristics: Kind to the skin.
- Cotton/ Nylon:
Mixed fibre made from cotton and nylon.
Characteristics: Cotton quality with technical grip.
- Denim:
- Rugged cotton twill textile, originally used for jeans.
- Flash:
- Order of an item that was not initially marketed as a part of the collection.
- Fleece:
A soft bulky knitted or woven fabric that has a deep pile or long nap.
Characteristics: Snugly soft fabric that keeps you warm.
- Inch:
- Measure of length used in the USA and in the UK.

- Length:
Length of trousers, measured from crotch to hem.
- Microinterlock:
100% cotton.
Characteristics: Elastic but stiff and with a very fine surface.
- NOS:
- Permanently available items from our “NOS Basic” programme.
- Peached quality:
Jersey quality.
Characteristics: Very soft grip with a napped surface.
- Poly/ Viscose:
Synthetic fibre.
Characteristics: Beautifully flowing fall of the fabric.
- Repeat:
- Marketing already successfully sold-out items again.
- Rib 1x1 :
100% cotton.
Characteristics: Very elastic.
- Shop in stores :
- Sales area of at least 70 sqm with the Cecil-owned shop set up where only Cecil products are being sold.
- Store:

- Terry fleece:
Pile knit fabric with uncut loops on one side.
Characteristics: Snugly soft fabric that keeps you warm.
- TNC:
Fabric made from polyester, nylon and cotton.
Characteristics: Very soft grip.
